Publish and Perish?
Is the printed publishing industry in 'deep doo-doo'?
Infoworld (computer magazine) and Life magazine both announced today that they are ceasing printed publication, and now will be available only on the Innertubes. Other magazines have slowly moved their most immediate content to the Innerweb.
For you old-timers: remember when computer magazines were as thick as "Modern Bride", with 300+ pages every two weeks? And there were at least a dozen competitors in the computer magazine marketplace.
Granted, a lot of that page count was advertising, but there was a goodly amount of editorial content. Now, PC magazine is lucky to get to 100 pages. (And aren't they monthly now?)
Life magazine, formerly a weekly (as I recall) with awesome photography, has been (until today) relegated to an add-in to the Sunday newspaper, with a page count of under 30 pages.
With all of the printed magazines going to the Innertube, what will I be able to take into the 'one-seat library' (small room, with fan) at my house?
